| Well I have been talking to a friend who is a FL native and he has agreed to take me to a few spots the weekend that he says I will be sure to find some nice Cottonmouths , E Diamondbacks or maybe if I'm lucky a Copperhead or Timber Rattler or two.I'm mainly after pics in natural settings, so I decided I better have AT LEAST some decent makeshift hunting equipment.I went to a local Goodwill store and made a deal on a whole rack of old golf clubs. Then I went to the local home improvement store and got a few sections of steel rod (I chose zinc plated in hopes that it will stay rust free a little longer).I have bent up a couple prototypes so far and thought I would ask you guys your opinions. The first one I made pretty large hoping to be able to use it for some of the bigger snakes that I keep if the need ever arises or maybe for pulling aside dead wood or brush while hunting.I am going to be experimenting with handle lengths/types and hook shapes/sizes so any constructive criticism would be taken into consideration, thanks for the read guys!

| This is very much like the hook that I bought. (except mine is extendable) Mine works for me, but hooks like these are kinda dangerous for catching venemous snakes.(unless you are quite experienced) Good Luck. Never leave rough cut edges on the metal. Snakes are easily injured during wrangling. |

| Yeah I also have some tongs that have plastics spoons that are rubber lined so you don't have to grip as hard to pick them up.The only way I have ever seen hots handled is with hooks,so I am working on a smaller hook with a graphite handle right now (pics to follow),as long as you have them mid bodied near the head with a hook they are a lot easier to tail.I used to keep Western Diamondbacks when I lived in Ohio, but this will be my first experience with them in a natural setting .My friend has lived here in the everglades all his life so I am leaning on his experience( and a shiny new pair of snake boots to help out until I get a feel for how to hunt and where and where NOT to put my feet. Thanx for the tip about the edges,i have been looking at pics of pro snake hooks on the web and using some ideas that I see.Once I get better at making these and a better system for bending ( you DON'T wanna know how I'm doing it now ) I am going to try some titanium rod instead of steel to make them lighter and keep them strong.I though about aluminum ,but I don't think it will hold up to field abuse. _________________ 0.1 Burmese 13' 1.0 Albino Burmese 11' 1.0 Albino Burmese 5' 1.0 Granite Albino Burmese 5' 1.0 Retic 7' 0.1 RTB 5' 1.0 RTB 7' 0.1 Newborn Sandfire Beardie |
